How to Get More Salon Clients Without Spending More on Ads

7 min readBy Salon Owner Growth

Salon owners ask how to get more clients. The better question is how to keep the ones you have, then add new ones in the cheapest possible order. Here is the order that works.

Stop the Leaks Before You Pour Water In

If your rebook rate is under 60 percent, getting more clients will not feel like growth. Every new face you bring in will offset a face you lost. Look at last month's clients, how many booked their next appointment? If the answer is "I do not know," that is your first project. See our deep dive on salon client retention.

1. Ask Every Happy Client for a Review

The single fastest way to get more clients is to be the salon that shows up first on Google. The lever for that is reviews. A salon with 250 reviews at 4.9 stars will outbook a salon with 40 reviews even if the work is identical.

Make it part of checkout: every client who smiles in the mirror gets a text with a direct review link. We wrote the exact script in how to get more Google reviews for your salon.

2. Turn Existing Clients Into Referrers

Your best clients know other people who would love your salon. They will not refer unless you ask. A simple "we'd love to grow by referral, here's 20 dollars for you and 20 for a friend" works. Train every stylist to say it at the rebook moment, not at the checkout counter.

3. Fill Quiet Times With Targeted Offers

You do not need more clients on Saturday at noon. You need more on Tuesday morning. Build a specific "weekday glow" offer, say 15 percent off color services Tuesday and Wednesday for new clients only. Run it on Instagram and Google Local. New clients fill quiet hours; existing clients are unaffected.

4. Get Found on Google Maps

Most local searches for salons end on the Google map pack. Three things move you up: review volume, profile completeness (every category, every photo, hours, services, prices), and posts. Add a Google Business post every two weeks. Most of your competitors do not, that alone helps.

5. Show Real Work on Instagram, Tagged Locally

Before/after content of real clients, with the location tagged, is the highest converting Instagram content for salons. Save them to a "transformations" highlight so new visitors see your range immediately.

6. Partner With Local Businesses

One good local partnership, a boutique, a wedding planner, a gym, can outperform months of cold marketing. Trade gift cards, co-host one event, share each other's audiences.

7. Run Ads Last

Once reviews, retention, Instagram and partnerships are working, paid ads make sense. A small targeted Meta or Google campaign can fill specific gaps. Without the foundation, ads burn cash. With it, they amplify what is already working.

The Order Matters

Most owners try ads first and partnerships last. The owners who quietly grow do the opposite. For the bigger picture, see our guide on how to grow a salon business, client acquisition is one chapter, not the whole book.
